  1. E-learning Sites
  2. E-commerce Sites
  3. Google Alerts
  4. Piggyback Content
  5. Q&A Sites
  6. Social Media
  7. Blog Ideas Tools

Alright then, let’s dive right in.

1.E-learning Sites:

E-learning industry is booming and so are their websites. These websites are one of the best and easiest places to look at for your next content topic and that too for free!

They are goldmines for content ideas that can be used not only for your blog but also for creating a content strategy, content calendar.

The best part is that you have great number of websites at your fingertips that you can explore and come up with ideas.

The method is very simple:

1. Search for relevant courses.
2. Go through the index of the top performing courses.
3. Shortlist the ideas that you feel is good for your blog.
4. Write and publish it.

Let’s look at an example to understand this method better.

Suppose you are a graphic designer who runs a blog whose target audience is that segment of people who are interested in graphic designing.

To get an idea of what topics you can cover on your blog, you can visit any e-learning site that offers tutorials for graphic designing for beginners.

In our case, we will assume it to be Udemy.

Once you’re at the homepage of Udemy, enter your query in the “Search” feature; in this example it will be “graphic designing for beginners” (without inverted commas) as shown in the image below.

Once you enter this query, you will see a list of courses that are available for your target audience.

You can see that these courses are ranked based on various parameters such as ratings.

Now go through top 10 courses and shortlist the ones with excellent feedback and review.

Once done, you can go through the various topics that are covered in these courses (as can be seen in the image below).

Note down those topics that you find are relevant for your blog.

These are content ideas for your blog.

2. E-Commerce sites:

If you are into selling products online and have little to no clue what to write about then E-commerce sites is where you should be heading.

These sites can be an incredible source of topics for your blog; especially if you’re an affiliate marketer. If you are writing for a company that sells products then these sites can be great place for e-commerce blog ideas for creating an effective content marketing strategy.

Since you are already catering to a specific niche, you won’t have to spend too much time in coming up with a blog post idea that will instantly appeal to your target audience.

They’re right there in front of you. All you have to do is put in little effort to spot them. This will also help you with your keyword research for future posts.

Suppose you’re a vegan who runs and manages their own blog for housewives while at the same time also sell products related to your niche (as an affiliate).

Obviously, you would be looking at topics that your target audience finds attractive such as recipes.

Here’s how you can leverage the powerful e-commerce giants’ website, like Amazon or eBay or even Flipkart for your affiliate marketing blog.

Let’s say you visit to find your next post idea.

On the homepage, type in “vegan recipe book” (without inverted commas) in the search bar at the top.

The result will show you list of books that cover this topic as can be seen in the image below.

Just like we did for the e-learning sites, click on any book that you think would be a good fit for your blog and you will see the topics covered in it.

Similarly, you can go through various books, shown in the result, to shortlist blog content ideas.

(Bonus Tip: Check out if the authors of these books have a blog. If yes, go through the topics they’ve covered and you might end up with some more relevant ideas for your blog)

3.Google Alerts:

This free google service is one of our favorite places to look for our blog content. Google Alerts delivers a newsletter-like email which consists of links to fresh content that contains the keyword or phrase you’re tracking.

For example, if you’re a Facebook marketer who wants to keep a tab on all the latest and trending news or discussions related to your niche then all you have to do is set up a Google alert. You will then get emails (as described above) which will do it for you.

Setting up Google Alerts is a simple process and anyone can do it with ease.

Here’s how:

On the homepage you will see a box which has “Create an alert about” text inside of it.

Type in the keyword that you want to track. In your case, you will type Facebook. Once you press enter, you will be asked to enter information such as email ID where you want to receive those alerts, how frequently you want those alerts in your inbox and so on.

4.Competitor Blog Comments:

This technique is a slight twist on one of the old school SEO techniques of link building.

Usually in comments section of a blog post, you will find someone placing a relevant link to their own content. That is a nice little way to build backlink.

But have you come ever across a reader comment that made you go “wow, that is quite a good and pretty relevant question”?

If yes, then that comment is your cue for your next blog post; provided the blog owner hasn’t replied to it or it needs detailed answer.

Another way is to go through the comments section to try and see if there is a certain common pain point that is reflected in it.

So if the blog post is about link building then is the comment section filled with request about review of a particular SEO tool or service or niche related issues? If yes, then that is another cue for choosing that topic for your blog.

The best part is when you publish your own content on that topic, you can come back to the original post (where you found your topic) and share its link. You can either do this as a new comment or as a reply to relevant comment.

If you’re content is good then your blog not only gets more exposure but also a backlink which makes it seo friendly in the eyes of Google too.

5.Piggyback Content:

This method is more suited to non-authority or new blogs and is a slight twist on the guest posting technique. Implementing it is straightforward and not that difficult at all.

Here’s how it works:
Search for blog posts that have been recently published.

To do so, enter your target keyword in Google.

Now filter the results based on date or specific duration. All you have to do is once the search results are displayed, click on the “Tools” option which is right below the search bar.

You will then see three options; “Any Country”, “Any Time”, and “All Results”. Click on “Any Time” option and choose the duration within which you want to see the results.

So if I want to see blog posts written and published on the topic “Home Made Recipes” in last one week, then I will click on “Past Week” option. It will only show me those posts that were published on the above mentioned topic in last 7 days.

Blog post ideas for backlink

Once the results are displayed, go through these new blog posts and note down any points that you might find have not been attended to.

Once you do that, you got two options.

1.You can either write a more detailed article which also includes the missing points from your reference post.

You can also pitch this as a guest post to the blog owner whose post was the reason you wrote your new blog post.

2. Write a detailed post that covers only the missing points and nothing else.

Now pitch this as a guest post to the blog owner or request them to add your content to their existing blog post.

The chances are that the second option is more beneficial to both; you and the blog owner.

6.Use Q&A Sites:

Q&A sites are a goldmine when it comes to finding blog post ideas for not just bloggers but also for companies.

These sites are filled with people who are looking for expert opinions or advice or content that answers their queries.

Still not sure? Have a look at the image below to get an idea of the types of questions being asked on these sites.

A simple search on B2B marketing on one of the most popular Q&A sites (Quora) showed some topics that are sure interesting enough to be covered as blog posts.

If you are not too keen on answering questions then find those questions where you can share a link to your existing blog posts.

Just a word of caution. When you answer a question, add some meaningful content (such as your blog post summary) along with a link.

Ryan Biddulph, who runs the amazing blog called Blogging From Paradise, uses this technique in an effective way. Check out his profile on Quora to see this technique in action.

7.Social Media:

It is undeniable that Social Media is a big thing now a days and it would make complete sense to target sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube.

This method is very similar to what we covered earlier under “Competitor Blog Comments”. But instead of using competitor blog, you will be monitoring the comments left on the posts shared on their social media accounts to find your next topic.

The best part about this method is that when you post a link to a user’s comment and that user replies, this whole activity cycle goes as notification to people within the network of that particular user & also to others who are following that post. This means even more exposure for your content which in turn could bring a lot of traffic to your website.

8.Blog Topic Generating Tools:

    1. Thank you for your feedback.

Yes. Agreed. As a content creator, thinking from the angle of the target audience helps in getting better understanding of what type of content they’re looking for.
